Functional Medicine · Built Into Every MeRT Protocol

Functional medicine is how we make sure
MeRT works — and keeps working.

Functional medicine is one of the reasons Brain Treatment Center Michigan gets the results it does. It's the piece that makes sure your body is optimized for treatment, so MeRT®'s effects are stronger and last longer. It isn't a separate service you book on its own — it's woven into every patient's MeRT treatment plan.

Treating the whole person — not just the diagnosis

Functional medicine looks past a single symptom or diagnosis to ask a broader question: what is actually driving this pattern, and what does this individual need to restore healthy function? At Brain Treatment Center Michigan, that means considering the neurological patterns your qEEG reveals alongside the other factors that shape how your brain functions — things like sleep, nutrition, systemic inflammation, and hormonal balance.

It's a patient-centered, whole-body approach — the opposite of a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Root-cause focused

Looking at what's driving your symptoms, not just managing them after the fact.

Whole-body view

Considering how sleep, nutrition, inflammation, and hormones interact with brain function.

Personalized to you

The scope of evaluation is determined on a per-patient basis as part of your MeRT intake.

An optimized patient gets more out of MeRT — and keeps it longer.

MeRT works by helping your brain build healthier patterns of activity. That process goes better when the rest of your body is working with it instead of against it. Our functional medicine evaluation is aimed squarely at that: identifying and addressing the root-cause factors that could otherwise blunt your results or cause them to fade sooner than they should.

In practice, that means every patient's MeRT protocol is shaped not just by their qEEG, but by a physician-led view of the whole person — so the goal isn't just a good result at week six, it's one that holds.

Important: this is part of MeRT treatment, not a separate service

We don't offer functional medicine consultations on their own. It's built into the evaluation and protocol design for patients going through MeRT treatment — one more way we personalize your care, not an additional service to purchase.

Woven into the same process — not an extra appointment

1

During your intake

As part of your MeRT intake, our physician team evaluates relevant root-cause factors alongside your standard clinical history. The scope of this evaluation is determined on a per-patient basis.

2

While your protocol is designed

Dr. Wallace brings a functional medicine lens to the same qEEG review that shapes your MeRT protocol — so both the neurological and whole-person picture inform your plan from the start.

3

Throughout your six weeks

As your EEG is re-evaluated during treatment, any relevant root-cause factors are revisited too, so your protocol can keep adjusting to what actually helps you.

4

At your results appointment

You review your before-and-after EEG data with the physician team, including how functional factors were addressed along the way.

What patients ask about functional medicine here

Can I book a functional medicine consultation without doing MeRT?

No — we don't offer functional medicine as a standalone service. It's part of how we evaluate and treat patients who are going through MeRT, not a separate consultation you can schedule on its own.

Will I get lab work or supplements as part of this?

The scope of your functional medicine evaluation is determined on a per-patient basis during your MeRT intake, based on what's clinically relevant to you. Dr. Wallace will discuss what, if anything, applies to your situation.

Does this replace my regular doctor?

No. Our functional medicine evaluation is scoped to support your MeRT treatment and is not a substitute for ongoing primary care or specialist care you already receive elsewhere.

Why does Brain Treatment Center Michigan do this at all?

Because it improves outcomes. Addressing root-cause, whole-person factors alongside your qEEG-guided MeRT protocol helps treatment take hold more fully and last longer — which is the whole point of going through the six-week course in the first place.
