The basics

What is MeRT treatment for autism?

MeRT is a personalized form of EEG-guided rTMS designed to support brain communication and self-regulation. It's applied off-label for autism, following a comprehensive evaluation.

Is MeRT safe for children with autism?

MeRT uses FDA-cleared rTMS equipment in a non-invasive, medication-free protocol. It's applied off-label for autism after a full evaluation determines it's appropriate for your child.

What ages can receive MeRT treatment?

Treatment spans early childhood through adulthood, provided the individual can remain seated comfortably during sessions.

What to expect

What happens during the initial evaluation?

A consultation reviews your child's medical history, followed by qEEG (and often EKG) testing to help guide a personalized treatment plan.

How long does treatment take?

Most MeRT programs run 4–6 weeks, five days a week, with each appointment lasting approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

Can I stay with my child during sessions?

Yes — parents and caregivers are welcome to remain in the room for comfort and support.

Do we have to pause other therapies?

No. Families often continue speech, occupational, or ABA therapy alongside MeRT.

What it costs

Does insurance cover MeRT for autism?

Coverage is unlikely for autism specifically, since the rTMS equipment used in MeRT is FDA-cleared for depression and OCD, not autism. See our Cost & Insurance page for more detail.
