Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) teaches skills through structured learning and reinforcement. MeRT® is a non-invasive, EEG-guided treatment aimed at supporting brain communication and regulation. Together, they can address different pieces of the same picture.
ABA is a widely used therapy for autism that focuses on building skills through structured learning and reinforcement. MeRT takes a different approach: it uses qEEG brain mapping to identify patterns in brain activity, then applies FDA-cleared rTMS equipment aimed at supporting healthier brain communication and self-regulation.
The two are not interchangeable — ABA teaches skills, MeRT supports the brain function that can make engaging with that learning easier. For some children, using both as part of an individualized plan may help more than either alone.
Families going through MeRT treatment commonly continue ABA, speech, or occupational therapy at the same time. Our physician team can discuss how MeRT may fit alongside your child's current plan during your evaluation.
