TRICARE isn't just for service members — it covers your whole family

TRICARE coverage for FDA-cleared TMS extends to a wide range of beneficiaries. If anyone in your military family is dealing with treatment-resistant depression or OCD, it's worth a conversation about whether coverage applies to their situation.

Active-duty service members

Currently serving members of all branches may be covered for TMS for MDD or OCD under TRICARE Prime or Select.

Military retirees

Retired service members and their families enrolled in TRICARE may qualify depending on their specific plan and eligibility status.

Dependents and family members

Spouses, children, and other eligible dependents covered under a TRICARE plan may access TMS treatment for MDD or OCD.

TRICARE covers FDA-cleared TMS for two specific conditions

FDA-cleared TMS equipment — which is what we use for MeRT® — is an established covered benefit under TRICARE for the following diagnoses. Coverage details vary by plan and eligibility; our team will help you verify before you begin.

Primary coverage

Major Depressive Disorder

TRICARE covers FDA-cleared TMS for MDD, including treatment-resistant cases where one or more antidepressants have failed. This is the most commonly covered indication and applies to both active-duty members and their eligible dependents.

Also covered

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

FDA-cleared TMS for OCD is also covered under TRICARE for eligible beneficiaries. If you or a family member has a confirmed OCD diagnosis and has not responded adequately to first-line treatments, TMS may be an option worth exploring.

Important: coverage varies by plan

TRICARE coverage for TMS depends on your specific plan (Prime, Select, For Life, etc.), your eligibility status, prior authorization requirements, and whether specific clinical criteria are met. Our team will conduct a benefits verification before you commit to anything. Call care team at (269) 430-7966 to start the coverage check.

Three steps to begin TRICARE-covered treatment

1

Call care team for a benefits verification

Before anything else, our care team will verify your specific TRICARE plan coverage, prior authorization requirements, and estimated cost-share. This is a free call — no commitment required. Call (269) 430-7966 and ask for our care team.

2

Initial consultation and intake evaluation with our psychiatrist

If TRICARE coverage is confirmed, your first visit includes an in-person consultation and a intake evaluation with our psychiatrist with Dr. Wallace. This evaluation establishes or confirms the diagnosis (MDD or OCD), documents prior treatment history, and determines whether TMS is clinically appropriate. The evaluation is an essential step for prior authorization.

What if I have PTSD — not just MDD?

PTSD and MDD frequently co-occur in the military community. If you come to us with a primary PTSD diagnosis, Dr. Wallace's evaluation will assess whether Major Depressive Disorder is also present. If both diagnoses are clinically supported, MDD may open TRICARE coverage pathways for TMS that PTSD alone does not.

This is not about manufacturing a diagnosis — it's about ensuring that a complete and accurate clinical picture is documented. Many veterans and active-duty members living with PTSD meet full criteria for MDD and have never had it formally recognized.

3

Prior authorization and treatment

Our team manages the prior authorization process with TRICARE on your behalf. Once approved, treatment follows the standard MeRT course — daily sessions Monday through Friday for approximately six weeks, with EEG re-evaluation at weeks two, four, and six. Dr. Wallace personally oversees your protocol throughout.
